COVID Protocol — Laurelwood Optometry

Note: These COVID protocols are no longer required as of April 3, 2023. This page is preserved for reference. For current office information, please contact our office.

Dear Laurelwood Optometry Patients,

We have carefully planned to promote the safest experience and highest level of customer service to welcome you back during the Pandemic. In order to minimize your risk of exposure to illness, we are still taking the following precautions:

Office Protocols

1. Crowd Control

Until further notice, we ask that you not bring a companion to your appointment, unless you need a caregiver or guardian to assist you. Parents, we love your children, but please arrange for childcare at home if your child does not have a scheduled appointment. We request that only one parent accompany each child to his or her appointment. Siblings will not be allowed in the exam room. We are allowing extra time in between appointments for us to disinfect all surfaces in the office.

2. Masks Required

Please bring your own mask (non-vented) and wear it upon arrival. For the safety of our staff and patients, anyone without a mask cannot be serviced. We operate under a healthcare setting and indoor masks are still required. If you are a caregiver or are accompanying your child to his or her eye appointment, we ask that both you and the patient wear masks. All of us in the office will be wearing masks (and use gloves as appropriate).

3. Patient Communication & Intake Forms

We have implemented a new patient communication system that allows us to email your intake forms ahead of time for you to fill out, minimizing paperwork at the front desk. Make sure you fill out and submit all the required forms on your computer at home including the COVID-19 screening questionnaire.

  • Have your medical insurance card information ready for the insurance section and fill in all fields with "none" or "N/A" if needed.
  • Look for the PIN to come through in your email inbox.
  • Please bring your own pen in case we need your signature.

4. Arrival Procedure

Upon arrival for your appointment, we request that you stay in your car and either text or call us at (650) 345-0248. We will confirm that you have completed your intake forms and we will let you know when we are ready for you to enter the office.

5. Signs of Illness

Temperatures will no longer be taken, but anyone feeling signs of illness will be asked to reschedule his or her visit.

6. Pickups & Walk-Ins

Please call ahead to make an appointment to pick up your eyeglass and contact lens orders and for frame repairs and adjustments. Walk-ins are discouraged and may result in having to wait outside until we can accommodate you.

7. Hand Hygiene

Hand sanitizer will be placed at the front desk. We require all patients to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water for 20 seconds upon first entry to the exam room.

8. Frame Selection

Frame selection will be modified with staff pulling frames of your choice for your review. All worn frames will be washed thoroughly with detergent and running water following CDC guidelines before being returned to shelves for display.

9. Air Filtration

We have installed a hospital-grade air filtration system to help purify the air of viruses, bacteria, allergens, and pollutants.

Thank you for your trust and understanding during these challenging times. We always appreciate your support and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Take care and stay safe and healthy,
Dr. Karen Collom and the Staff of Laurelwood Optometry
